Morgan, William Rockefeller, Joseph Pulitzer and Marshall Field built a cluster of mansion-sized cottages, which still exist today in the islands historic district. In the 1890's they built the Jekyll Island Club. |

Jekyll Island is blessed with miles of unspoiled beaches and dunes with supporting lowland saltwater marshes and large tracts of subtropical forests. Within this fragile and protected environment there are large populations of wildlife including: manatees, dolphins, sea turtles, alligators, armadillos, deer, snowy egrets, herons and ibis. In fact, Jekyll Island is home to over 300 species of birds. A sign on the island’s causeway affirms "a thousand flights arriving daily!" |
