Jekyll Island: Georgia's Jewel

Jekyll Island, Georgia is a popular state park brimming with a long history of Spanish missionaries, French settlers, Civil War encampments, and a 19th century retreat for the very wealthy.

In the 1880’s Jekyll’s natural beauty and warm climate combined to attract some of America’s richest industrialists to the island during the winter. Such notables as J.P. Morgan, William Rockefeller, Joseph Pulitzer and Marshall Field built a cluster of mansion-sized cottages, which still exist today in the islands historic district. In the 1890's they built the Jekyll Island Club.
